I know its (very) early days, but I was wandering if any details about this years World Championships were out yet (date & time etc). Reason I ask this early is that I'm trying to assemble a local team (Yey Shropshire), and because most of them will be students they'll need to start saving now!

Cheers! Cheesy

Well, Mr. Darlington seems your question has gone unanswered for awhile here.

The World Championships are typically held around the end of October.  Dates and times are usually announced in mid to late August.  Of course, signing up for the Championship newsletter on the front page of this site is a sure way to keep yourself in the loop.

I recommend that you all begin saving perhaps more importantly begin your training as soon as possible (if you haven't already).  If you all are looking for a trainer, I would recommend Andy of the Original Team UK, who I believe made it to the final four this past year.

I would've started a new topic but the board software didn't allow it.  A local bar in my town is hosting a RPS tournament not sanctions by the World RPS Society, but is claiming that it is a preliminary round to the World RPS championship.  The winner of that night will be invited to a regional final and then the winner of the regional final gets 3 free nights at the Luxor in Vegas and a chance to be crowned world champion and win a $50,000 prize.  How does the society feel about a competing world tournament?

They don't seem to be making claims that they are running the World Championships so I think your bar is mistaken, besides it is hardly a World Championship if no one from outside the US is allowed to play.

It is nothing more than a regional competition with a big purse.

Thanks for the advice C. Urbanus.

I'll try to get them training (and saving) now. As for training with the Original Team UK, they're too far away from us which is a right pain. Though they did give me some handy hints at this years (2005) contest.

I'm in the Midwest of the US and 3 bars near here are all having preliminary round events with no entry fee this month.  The winners of those move on to the regional round and the winner of that wins a free trip to Las Vegas to compete for the $50,000 purse and title of champion.

For real.  The friggin' World RPS Society headquarters are in Toronto, in the Trinity Building.  You'd think that they would have thrown a tournament up there or something.
