While searching the web for rps related information, I came across the following site: Massie Ikeda: rps game I was amazed with what I found. How is it possible that we've all missed this one for so long?
The creator of the site is a Japanese neurologist with the Department of Clinical Research, National Saigata Hospital in Japan. He has an impressive record of previous positions, licenses, and an extensive list of published work. He lists the major foci of his work as "nitric oxide, Alzheimer's disease and the rock-paper-scissors game." Indeed, so great is his love for the game that he mentions his discovery of rps outside of Japan as having "evoked the academic interest far much stronger than I ever experienced in the neuroscience research." He goes on to include a distribution map showing the world's rps playing regions. (I notice he does not yet have information on Canada, but he does request information.)
In the Spirit of Outreach, I have invited this erudite gentleman to visit worldrps.com, and if so inclined to say howdy on the Bull Board. I'm sure he and M i/a ster Brilliant could have fascinating discussions on RPS history.
In any case, I am once more delighted to find a kindred spirit in our love of the World's Greatest Game. His work, and love of the sport, give us all inspiration.

Great work Rosh, I've heard for ages that there was an RPS Distributiopn map but I never been able to find it. We'll be hiring two extra promotional staff tomorrow. I was interested to see that Canada appears to have little interest in our great game. You and I both know that, if you read the WRPSS annual statemant, an unusually high amount of WRPSS money goes into Canada and we have assumed that would be for a good reason.Big money in, nothing out? Perhaps, as I've argued long and hard, it may be the time to push into Asia. If we can win Asia, Canada will be irrelevant, and not before time. Perhaps an approach to Mr Ikeda, even an offer of a posting, is in order. You are on to something, Rosh. Something big. Carry on. As I know you will.

Yes indeed, great work Rosh on unearthing this.
Forgive the re-post, but I will include the Map on this board, to save people having to go offsite for the image

The map is dated a full eleven years prior to the first Open International Tournament and well before the first iteration of this site, so the ommission of Canada (despite being the home of the World RPS Society since 1918) is almost forgiveable.
I can also personally testify to the use of RPS in South Africa (see my South African Report for more detail).
Certainly look forward to a few more historians on this board. These days it seems like the conspiracy buffs are beginning to outwiegh those who seek to support their hypotheses with actual facts.

I realize this map is several years old, but I thought the old master Telmo Nunez brought RPS to Russia just after the cuban missile crisis. As the legend goes, he was permitted to enter the Soviet Union because he held an honorary title of "the people's champion" in venezuela. This was mistaken for a communist title, rather than the actual meaning which refered to his arepa cafe.
In any case, he reportedly challenged a KGB colonel to a match and won...he was never seen again.
