Ok, I've been oohing and aahing for a month or so now and have finally decided to put the wheels in motion to run a local one-off tournament to raise money for Comic Relief - Sport Relief. Being in Artistic Affairs, my first call of duty was to design a nice logo. Because there're not many RPS Players in Shropshire (I think I could be solo here), for the first round I'm going to use the sticker method discussed here, that way new players won't be too discouraged if they are beaten straight away, then commence a KO stage. I'm now going to try and sort out a date and venue before confirming any more...so watch this space (not literally, no get some tea or something!)

Edit: I'm having to put the tournament idea on hold for now. I still want to run one, and it will be for charity, but at the moment I have way too much work to do for college. I'm a bit dissapointed, but I'll bounce back. Thanks guys

That's great news, mr_darlington! I wish you all the best with your tournament. I'm actually considering running one here, so I'll be particularly interested to hear how yours goes.

Perhaps one way of making the sticker stage a touch more organised would be to have the organiser announce, "find an opponent... begin the match now! ...everyone finished? Find a new opponent... play... find... play..." That would keep things moving smoothly, and probably also help keep it an RPS contest rather than a begging-for-stickers contest. On the other hand, having a 'play as many people as you can' sticker stage might be more fun, in a chaotic and frantic kind of way. Swings and roundabouts.

How long do you want the tournament to be? My guess would be that 10 sticker rounds (best of 3 of 3) and a final 8 knock-out would be around 90 mins. (Say 4 mins per sticker round, 10 mins between stages, then seven, 5-min-ish matches in the knockouts). If you have best of 3 for the sticker rounds, that would reduce it to say 2 mins per round, and cut the total down to around 60 mins.

Love the writing on the logo by the way, very cool!

Thanks for the timing hints Martin, I might go with that sticker suggestion depending on how many people I can get to enter. Good luck with yours   Thanks also for the compliment on the logo!

At the Internationals every player has a tear off strip on their competitor number. It says, I think, (I do not own an untorn number) "currently undefeated" Usually the ref gets to rip it off,  which explains why people would take that job.
In essence, it renders the losing number inoperable.
Perhaps, a sticker tournament could include a, lets say, red dot in the bottom right hand corner that the winner gets to take from the loser as a form of ritual.
All stickers ritualised become inoperable, yet remain a souvenir.
As to how individuals manage illegal red dot removal is anyone's guess.
Anyway, it's something to think about.

Darlo,

You're a credit to Artistic Affairs! Just brought aboard, and already working hard.

Keep it up my friend.

Best of luck with the Tournament.
