In the aftermath of the 2007 Masters of the Bull Board Tournament, ScissorSista requested the chance to play me in a one-off game. I (possibly foolishly) accepted. Now things have quietened down for ScissorSista (she was busy wrestling radioactive crocodiles), and for me since playing custardchuk (a similar experience). So, we're going to start our match this weekend, and we'll bring you the results here, as they happen.
The format's the same as the 2007 MOTBB final: best of three sets, first-to-five in each set. Whatever happens, it should be an interesting match.

So, the match is underway. And here's the first update:
martinburley versus ScissorSista
This friendly match is best of three first-to-five sets. We will report the results after every three throws.
First set:
<martinburley chooses to receive>
SS: Well Martin the pain & wretchedness from St Paddy's day goes on...I feel worse than yesterday! However I cannot keep you waiting with baited breath any longer. So here it is, the first challenge... MB: Given your hangover, a steady, solid Rock or peaceful, quiet Paper seem like likely openings... on the other hand, you are ScissorSista - let's see if you live up to your name.
<First throw: martinburley P v R ScissorSista - martinburley wins>
MB: Now you'll be wondering if I'm going to throw another of my triple gambit openings... SS: Lucky break there Martin. I can see I'll have to leave my nice persona behind and get a bit naughty. In the meantime suck on this!
<Second throw: martinburley S v R ScissorSista - ScissorSista wins>
SS: Martin, psycho-babble/-bullying and playground taunts might not work for you in this match. "This is serious", no more nice Sista. Give me your worst... MB: Losing a throw to you already - I am giving you my worst! What you have to watch out for is when I decide to give you my *best*...
<Third throw: martinburley S v S ScissorSista - tie>
<After three throws: martinburley and ScissorSista are tied at 1 - 1>

<After three throws: martinburley and ScissorSista are tied at 1 - 1>
MB: The good ol' avalanche bluff, hey... come on Sista, I might not be as grizzled as custardchuk, but I wasn't born yesterday. SS: Well babe lest hope you can make it to reach your *best* as you say.
<Fourth throw: martinburley P v R ScissorSista - martinburley wins>
SS: OK Martin you got away with that one. But I'm not concerned...just massaging your feeble ego before I move in for the kill. MB: ScissorSista, you seem very (obsessively?) focused on me, when it's your own ability to perform that you should be worried about. ;-)
<Fifth throw: martinburley R v P ScissorSista - ScissorSista wins>
MB: Bringing Paper into your game already? Interesting. You must be getting nervous... SS: Martin, paper was my desired throw as I just knew you were dying to play your first rock. Your such a boy after all! Also in response to you earlier comments I AM very focused on 'smoking your ass', and NO I am not worried about my own ability to perform. So try this for size...!
<Sixth throw: martinburley S v P ScissorSista - martinburley wins>
<After six throws: martinburley leads 3 - 2>

<After six throws: martinburley leads 3 - 2>
SS: I see you're departing from your usual tactics and using a somewhat scissor-heavy approach as opposed to the highly successful but sparingly used occurrences of MotBB. Going to cut me up again are you Martin??? MB: I like to be flexible in the way I play - as you know. ;-)
<Seventh throw: martinburley S v P ScissorSista - martinburley wins>
MB: Come on, Sista, you know the bureaucrat gambit isn't your style... you're sharper and sassier than that. SS: Sharper, yes, but gave myself a nasty bureaucratic papercut there. Hope this one messes with your system!
<Eighth throw: martinburley P v R ScissorSista - martinburley wins>
<First set complete - martinburley wins 5 - 2>

OK Martin, but it ain't over 'til it's over.
That was the new "ScissorSista Defence". Lose the 1st set, lull you into a false sense of security then blow you out of the water...
Bring on your next challenge!

Second set:
<ScissorSista receives>
MB: Good effort that set, Sista... now let's see what you're ready to show me this time round! SS: OK Burley, I can tell you're quietly smug. Let's see what you've got...and is it good enough??? I'm starting with...Scissors (a la the Saint)
<First throw: martinburley S v S ScissorSista - tie>
SS: So you thought you could cut me up first go eh? Sharp but not sharp enough there babe. Statistics from your previous MotBB matches as well as our last set has shown that 40% of the time you'll repeat your 1st throw, 40% you'll switch up and 20% switch down. In tied 1st throws it's 50:50 repeat:switch down. Gonna switch up this time? [Just to increase your repertoire and maintain 'randomness'?] MB: Maybe you're trying to steer me away from switching up. In which case you'll throw Scissors. Maybe you're trying to lure me into switching up. In which case you'll throw Paper. Maybe you'll repeat Scissors for the first time this match. Lots of maybes... but they all point to Scissors being safe for me... maybe.
<Second throw: martinburley S v R ScissorSista - ScissorSista wins>
MB: There you go, there's the win you wanted. You've officially done better than custardchuk did against me. Now, I'll take my gloves off. SS: May RPSOZ get the result it truly deserves...
<Third throw: martinburley S v S ScissorSista - tie>
<After three throws: ScissorSista leads 1 - 0>

<After three throws: ScissorSista leads 1 - 0>
SS: Gloves off eh? Martin, you weren't even trying. Better lift your game pseudo-Kiwi!!! MB: You sound pretty confident, ScissorSista. But you shouldn't be too confident... remember the saying: confident, cocky, lazy, dead!
<Fourth throw: martinburley S v R ScissorSista - ScissorSista wins>
MB: Hmm... two throws down, how will I respond? With another Scissors, or fleeing to the safety of Rock? SS: Martin, it would seem you have more to worry about than just being 2-0 down...
<Fifth throw: martinburley R v P ScissorSista - ScissorSista wins>
SS: Oh dear Martin, things just seem to be getting bleaker and bleaker...Looks like you need to lift your game mate! MB: Ommm...
<Sixth throw: martinburley P v S ScissorSista - ScissorSista wins>
<After six throws: ScissorSista leads 4 - 0>

Sorry, ScissorSista, I just wasn't with it for that set and you took full advantage. My mind was elsewhere. That hardly comes as a surprise to you though, does it? I have to say, you struck a good deal with custardchuk. His distracting, disconcerting allegations had their desired effect, and pretty much bought you this set. They won't work the next set, but I do applaud and admire your cleverness (whichever one of you thought of it). You know, when you first challenged me, I thought this was just going to be an honorable, friendly match. Silly me... but then, I should've known better... So, no quibbles from me. I've played under worse conditions before. (The stories I could tell you...) Congratulations on your clean sweep in the second set. Now let's get down to business.

Third and final set:
<martinburley receives>
SS: OK Martin the ScissorSista cut you up real bad in the 2nd set. Let's see if your nerve can hold in the third... MB: A new set, a new start...
<First throw: martinburley R v P ScissorSista - ScissorSista wins>
MB: ..and the same old result. SS: Hmmm, Martin, you seem to have stopped trying to use your psychological tactics (reverse or otherwise). Don't you want to try and goad me anymore?! Guess not. Let's see how you fair this time round...
<Second throw: martinburley S v P ScissorSista - martinburley wins>
SS: Oh Martin, after 8 straight losing throws you've decided to join the game again. Hurrah! MB: Eight straight wins? You should be so lucky. Let's see if your nerve holds this set...
<Third throw: martinburley S v P ScissorSista - martinburley wins>
<After three throws: martinburley leads 2 - 1>

5-0 in the second! Ooooooh!
It's not so easy, is it?, when you don't know what your opponent has already thrown.
Hahahaha!

<After three throws: martinburley leads 2 - 1>
MB: This is where it gets interesting. SS: Yesterday & today have been off days for sure. My heads all over the place...I can't do anything right. I think I might be distracted!!!
<Fourth throw: martinburley R v R ScissorSista - tie>
SS: Martin, it's good to see you've lifted your game. I want to play with you, not walk all over you (not in these shoes anyway, I need my stilettos for that manoeuvre!) MB: This Paper's made for walking, that's what it's gonna do, this Paper's made for walking and it's gonna walk right over you!
<Fifth throw: martinburley P v R ScissorSista - martinburley wins>
MB: No Scissors yet this set? Well, I'm sure they're going to come out sometime... SS: Mart, you've got some fire in your belly at last!
<Sixth throw: martinburley S v P ScissorSista - martinburley wins>
<After six throws: martinburley leads 4 - 1>

SS: Hey Martin. I guess we should finish this game before we're embroiled in the lengthy trial... MB: Good point. I'll do my best to make it a swift finish.
<Seventh throw: martinburley R v R ScissorSista - tie>
MB: Also, the latest edition of the RPS Chronicle has just been delivered, and I'm keen to go and read it. SS: I hear there's an exclusive exposé in the Chronicle.
<Eighth throw: martinburley S v P ScissorSista - martinburley wins>
<Set complete: martinburley wins 5 - 1>
<Match complete. Winner: martinburley (5 - 2, 0 - 5, 5 - 1)>
