Poll
Question: Imagine that, during a debate between the US presidential candidates, they're asked, "Which Rock-Paper-Scissor throw will symbolise your presidency?" The candidates give the following answers. Who would you vote for?
The US needs a strong president. Rock represents the strength and power I will embody as President. - 0 (0%)
We need to turn away from the politics of power. Education is the key. Paper symbolises my enlightened approach to being President. - 3 (20%)
We can only succeed by making radical changes on a number of fronts, especially healthcare. Scissors symbolise my willingness to find new ways forward. - 4 (26.7%)
We are living in dangerous times, and we can't afford to pussyfoot around. We need to win at all costs. As President, I won't be afraid to throw Dynamite when necessary. - 0 (0%)
We will only achieve unity as a nation through balance and harmony. My Presidency will be an equal blend of Rock, Paper and Scissors. - 4 (26.7%)
A good RPS player never reveals his throw in advance. Wait and see. - 3 (20%)
We need to widen our vision. Where previous presidents have been playing RPS, as your President I will play RPS-25. - 1 (6.7%)
I object to this question. RPS is a game of chance, running a country takes skill and intelligence. - 0 (0%)
What's Rock-Paper-Scissors? - 0 (0%)

Don't be insolent. And if you think this, you're wrong, stupid and arrogant.

"Anyway, a win is counted as just one win regardless of who it is against, same for losses and ties."

This is simply not the case.  You can have a perfect record with all your friends, but it certainly won't make a lick of difference once you enter a tournament.  You can win the first 6 of 7 rounds of your tourney, but lose once and you take home no cash, despite a fantastic record.  There's more to RPS and any game than just getting a win; you're also developing your skills constantly as you play.  In this regard, a win on the playground doesn't mean as much as playing a skilled opponent.  In fact, a winning or losing record can be quite deceiving.  chuk has a losing record for the ladder tourney, but I dare you to play him for a beer or even money.  That's something I would have to think long and hard about.

"If you don't know then that is why you don't know."

Well, perhaps if you would just say your reason for your links to your video game fighting youtube stuff, than I would understand.  As it is, I don't know how this post even turned into this discussion.

"Again, the bell curve fails to amuse me or provide accurate results."

I just hope you don't have the same professors someday as I did, because I thought the same thing but that didn't stop them from their strange grade-curving tactics.

Zapp: Leela, you forgot one thing.  Rock crushes scissors.  But paper covers rock... and scissors cut paper!  Kif, we have a conundrum!  Bring me a rock... and search them for paper. (Futurama's back baby!)

Of coarse one must develop their skills, I never said they don't. I merely mentioned the weaknesses of the bell curve and how it can be unrelated to skills. "If you don't know then that is why you don't know" is(or should be) a zen quote.
