Here's an RPS puzzle to tickle people's brain cells... I think it's pretty fiendish, but it can be solved, I promise!
Midnight Rider, C. Urbanus, The Saint and custardchuk decided to play each other in a knock-out tournament. The semi-finals and the final were all straightforward best-of-threes. You have to figure out who played who, and they all threw, from the clues below.
1. Midnight Rider's favourite throw was Paper. 2. No-one opened with Scissors. 3. Urbanus lost his semi-final. 4. One match was over after two throws. 5. The triple gambit thrown wasn't the Toolbox. 6. Fistful o' Dollars proved to be a winning gambit. 7. Only one player in the semi-finals repeated his opening throw. 8. Urbanus never threw Scissors. 9. Midnight Rider started with a Crescendo. 10. There was only one tied throw. 11. Custardchuk threw all three throws (Rock, Paper, and Scissors).

I haven't worked the puzzle but I'm guessing custardchuk lost 2-0. What is my prize?

You should have more faith in your abilities than that. No prize for you.

This seems to work:
Semifinals - Custardchuk (RRS) vs. Midnight Rider (PSR), Victory Midnight Rider C. Urbanus (RP) vs. The Saint (PS), Victory The Saint
Finals - Midnight Rider (RPP) vs. The Saint (RRR), Victory Midnight Rider

It works if we ignore the rule that custardchuk throws all three throws.
10 out of 11 aint bad, but we've got that three times now.
Could I request solutions be posted to Martin. We don't want to know the answer. We want to crack it ourselves. It's not like there are any prizes for coming first.

Just to confirm, Arbiter's solution is not quite right, for the reason custardchuk mentioned. No-one's sent a totally correct solution to me yet, so keep trying!

But . . . custardchuk does throw all three throws in my solution. He loses the first (R-P), wins the second (R-S), tying it 1-1 before he loses the third (S-R).

By all three throws, I meant the three throws of Rock, Paper and Scissors. In your solution, he throws Rock twice, and then Scissors - but no Paper. (The phrase 'all three throws' couldn't really apply to the number of throws, anyhow, since there could potentially be more than three throws in a match.)

Since this has been here for a while now, I've posted the answer below (hidden so those who want to keep trying can):
Semifinals:
The Saint RRS - PSR Midnight Rider: Midnight Rider wins C. Urbanus RP - PS custardchuk: custardchuk wins
Final:
Midnight Rider RPP - RRR custardchuk: Midnight Rider wins
Arbiter all but got it, getting all the throws correct - he just got The Saint and custardchuk the wrong way round. Well done, sir!
Highlight it to find out the answer if you want to.

This puzzle doesn't seem true to life:
Urbanus in the semi-final? Is he not usually out in the first round?
