SPRock 2010 is now underway!

As Max has masterfully handled the preliminary recruiting of players, I will be assisting him in the running of the tournament itself. Primarily, I will be providing a match-by-match commentary, to ensure the championship is as exciting as possible.

After the first match of the season, Andy Mills has emerged victorious in a 2-0 domination! Mills opened with a sneaky Scissors. Expecting a Toolbox gambit, Mills' opponent, Javier Manzano, followed with a Rock. Mills correctly predicted this play, throwing a devastating Paper to clinch the win! Well done to Mills, and commiserations to Manzano. A summary of the throws is as follows:

Mills S vs. P Manzano
Mills P vs. R Manzano

Stay tuned for the next exciting game, and throw well.

Cheers,
Game Master Franklint

Sequence of play follows threw the game panel numbers.
To complete his SPRock 7 run  Andy needs to defeat Panel members Sarah, Andrew, Chuck, Steve & John. in turn Plus The first random player Frances to win.
Thats 1 down & 6 to go for Andy.
Can Sarah Shock Andy out of his stride & knock him off the Start line?Huh
The match has started.

Following his initial win, Andy Mills is continuing his reign, after taking out Sarah Dixon! This match was far closer than Mills' vs. Manzano, perhaps indicating that Mills is slowly losing his form thanks to fatigue?

Mills used a daring strategy to win his match against Dixon, the Toolbox gambit being his weapon of choice. Although predicting the Scissors opening, Dixon clearly did not imagine Mills would show such courage to continue with Scissors another two times. The throws in this match are below:

Mills S vs. R Dixon
Mills S vs. P Dixon
Mills S vs. P Dixon

Mills has so far focussed on very Scissors-heavy play. Will he continue with this trend and, if he does, will it bode well for him, or will it cause his downfall? Stay tuned.

In a sudden and pivotal turn of events, Andy Mills has had his crown taken away from him, after falling to Andrew Lampman in what can only be described as a landmark match in the history of SPRock!

It took a total of six throws before either player could claim a single win, and the entire match lasted eleven throws! They are below.

Mills P vs. P Lampman
Mills R vs. R Lampman
Mills R vs. R Lampman
Mills R vs. R Lampman
Mills S vs. S Lampman
Mills R vs. R Lampman
Mills P vs. R Lampman
Mills R vs. R Lampman
Mills S vs. R Lampman
Mills P vs. P Lampman
Mills R vs. P Lampman

Mills certainly tasted bitter defeat following his match against Lampman, but he will be forced to wait for the other players to compete before he can have his chance to snatch the baton once more! Congratulations to Andrew Lampman, and keep watching to see how he fares against the other skilled competitors!

In another thrilling match, Andrew Lampman has defeated his world-famous opponent Clayton "custardchuk" Dwyer, in a quick-fire, three-throw match!

This particular match featured almost no trash-talk, with both players instead opting to let their hands do the talking. As Dwyer's RPS strategy has often focused on effective psychological banter, it seems his silence may have cost him the match. The throws of this match are below:

Lampman P vs. S Dwyer
Lampman P vs. R Dwyer
Lampman S vs. P Dwyer

Lampman has now accrued two SPRock wins, and has five remaining to take the 2010 title. The crowd watches his progress with bated breath...

NEWS ITEM UPDATE

The first live trial of SPRock on tuesday 7th dec at LEEDS U RPS went smoothly thanks to Darlo's skill as a presenter.
His relaxed informal style drew in some other FAB cafe custemers into the game so we had just enough players.

Four consecutive wins was the longest run.
In true christmas spirit the random player who stopped the run shared the kit kat prize.
Then the box of roses chocks main prize was opened for all to dip into.

It was a such a fun night I forgot to record the winners etc!!!!!

Thanks again to Darlo for making the live trial posible.
Looking forward to the next one, possibly in february 2011.

Cheers

Lampman is unstoppable! The action is heating up in the 2010 SPRock tournament, with another two victories for our current champion, Andrew Lampman!

In a quick-and-easy match against Steven Doolittle, Lampman barely broke a sweat, taking Doolittle down in no more than two throws:

Lampman P vs. R Doolittle
Lampman P vs. R Doolittle

That's three down, four to go for Lampman! Stay tuned!

As proved yet again, SPRock is an unpredictable game; it is no one's mistress. Despite Andrew Lampman appearing to be set up for a complete victory, his run has been stopped just shy of the halfway point by very devious John "Darlo" Darlington!

Although Lampman's strategy appeared watertight, the nature of RPS is such that, against the right (or wrong) opponent, it can prove completely ineffective, as was the case in the Lampman vs. Darlington match. Darlington managed to seal the deal with no hint of difficulty, as below:

Lampman S vs. R Darlington
Lampman P vs. S Darlington

Congratulations to our new SPRock runner, John Darlington, and commiserations to Andrew Lampman, who played a very strong game. Darlington now needs six more consecutive wins to take away the title of 2010 SPRock Champion, which will certainly be no mean feat.

John "Darlo" Darlington is proving a very worthy competitor for the SPRock crown, having taken down his second opponent in a speedy match.

This opponent was none other than Frances Anne "Frannie Annie" Ricketts, a very strong player and arguably Australia's best female competitor. Despite her lofty position, Darlington made quick work of her in their game. The throws of this match were:

Darlington P vs. R Ricketts
Darlington S vs. P Ricketts

Only time will tell how far Darlington can take the SPRock baton!

Another day, another Darlington victory. This match was hotly contested, but our current SPRock runner eventually came out on top, against the very experienced Jakqui Konadu Krobo. From an initial Paper stalemate, both players took different paths, with Krobo choosing to staunchly hold the line, giving her an initial win over Darlington's feeble Rock. However, Darlington went on to correctly predict when Krobo would crack and break her focus, and took advantage of this, managing to take the final two throws. The throws in this match were:

Darlington P vs. P Krobo
Darlington R vs. P Krobo
Darlington P vs. P Krobo
Darlington P vs. R Krobo
Darlington S vs. P Krobo

That's three wins to John "Darlo" Darlington. Who can tell what tomorrow will bring?

The next opponent in line was Mark "D" Thomas. A truly devastating player on the Roshambull scene, his skill is legendary on the competitive circuit. However, John "Darlo" Darlington didn't fail to impress, defeating Thomas in three short throws. They are below:

Darlington P vs. R Thomas
Darlington R vs. P Thomas
Darlington S vs. P Thomas

A truly excellent match this was, bringing Darlington's consecutive wins up to four! This may signal the approaching end of SPRock 2010!

A shocking end to SPRock 2010!

In a final match between two titans, showcasing intelligent throw choices and worthy endurance, the Bullboard's very own Russell Cohrs emerges victorious! In an effort to continue his run, John "Darlo" Darlington faced off against Cohrs, but Cohrs, as a professional Rock Paper Scissors player, solidly proved that experience in the professional arena helps create true champions. Although Darlington fought hard, Cohrs won the epic 7-throw duel, cleaning out with the SPRock 2010 title! Congratulations, Cohrs, and commiserations, Darlington! The throws are below:

Darlington S vs. P Cohrs
Darlington P vs. P Cohrs
Darlington R vs. R Cohrs
Darlington P vs. P Cohrs
Darlington S vs. S Cohrs
Darlington P vs. S Cohrs
Darlington P vs. S Cohrs

Thank you to all players, administrators and spectators, and of course to Game Master Max for making all of this possible! See you back here later this year for more SPRock fun!

Cheers,
