Well.
Once again it's time to contemplate why we are all here.
In eleven days we will all be enemies.
That suits me.
I'll buy you all a drink after it's over and tell you how you blew it.
(Sorry, Urbanus, this is how it will be. This is my year. I can smell it in my armpits. My armpits 'smell' like 13k Maybe you should take this year off.)

While I'm at it,

I'm going to issue a challenge to the "Midnight Skulker. (tm).

I'll play you for that last silver dollar. And I'll play you on your terms. I'm sick of hearing about it.

And I will challenge you for a dollar! I would make it a zillion, but you don't have that much.

Welcome, seeker

Sounds like I'm sitting this one out... but maybe I could get my coach to go in my place.  He lives pretty close to Toronto and knows his way around the town.  I'll ask him to compete for me and see what he says.  And he knows how to put beer down, so if he goes then you're in for a good time.  Too bad they have me chained to my desk here, ironically enough with the strength of many papers.

I can't legally compete for another two years or so. Expect quite the elaborate entrance in 2010. That is, if I can somehow persuade the Walkers to postpone the Worlds until the 7th of November in 2010, which would enable me to compete that year. Otherwise, it'll be 2011. Although it would be extremely easy, I'm not going to wiggle my way into the tourney underage, like I did with the RPSOZ champs. The main reason being that I feel there should be at least one responsible adult in attendance.

You may, if you are clever enough, notice that my above logic is flawed. If I attended the tournament underage, the number of responsible adults would not be altered. Therefore, I may as well go ahead and do it anyway. If you worked out my logic flaw, congratulations. Here's a medal.

Cheers,
Franklint

Aha! I've confounded the evil machinations of the Strategic Forces Department/WRPSS Enforcement Officers, by becoming not only the first person to sail from NZ to Canada in a raft, but also the first person to go up the Niagara Falls in a barrel. Now I'm hiking cross-country to Toronto, due to get there in about a week's time. I'm staying under the radar with some loyal friends, I've purchased my competitor's ticket for the Championships...

The WRPSS will see the error of its ways when I win the tournament. RPS genius is undeniable. It'll be clear that I've been framed by scurrilous saboteurs. I predict that the cases against me will be dropped by 26 October.

Oh, and, in case any Society officials decide to cancel my entry, I ought to point out that I purchased my ticket under a false name, naturally... (*cough* "custardchuk" *cough*)

Jef,
I have a few ideas about Good Tymez replacement.
The one on the left and the one on the right.....
However, Scissorsista and I will scout them. If they don't treat us like family, and read my mind before i do, then they are out. I'm quite prepared to scout all of Toronto if i have to.
Just out of interest...Where do you go after a hard day in the server room? That would save me one place we wouldn't have to check out.

Cohrs,
Send the coach over. I'll be doing some intensive training in the lead up and you can't have too many coaches. Sorry you can't make it, though I doubt it would make any difference to the results if you did show. Some other first round patsy will step in.

Franklint,
There's no persuading to be done regarding the date of the tournament. It's just wherever the dart lands. It's only dumb luck that it hasn't been held on Christmas Day. The Norwegians managed to get an illegal underage competitor in. I think RPSOZ could manage it. I'd love to see our kid beat on their kid.
BTW Are you old enough to drive us around yet? Otherwise there wouldn't be much point, I guess.

Burley,
You miss the point. I want you to compete. I want you to show us how your theoriticality will translate in the real world. I want to see your number crunching ass whooped by a genuine player. I want to play you in round 1 and I want your street bucks and I want you to see real RPS played at the highest level on the world stage, not hypothetical RPS played in some mouldy backward place. (I'm talking about your head here, not New Zealand)
I've gone so far as to buy a spare ticket for you so you can't use the "the dog ate my homework' excuse. Your problem is that you will be playing, not that you won't. And your paranoid conspiracy theories are misplaced. It's not that we would stop you competing, it's simply that we hate your guts.
Enjoy your thirty seconds of competition.

regards
custardchuk

Oh, I almost forget....

SMS,
Piss off.

"Some other first round patsy will step in."  Them's fightin' words mate!  But I still can't go this year.  I was really looking forward to knocking out a certain egotistical reigning street-champion as well.

custardchuk, I know you have a high opinion of yourself, but you're not the centre of everyone's attention (well, except when the 'thunder from down under' makes an appearance)... now sure, I've beaten you comprehensively online and it's going to be sweet to out-throw you in Toronto (with the Kiwi dollar sliding, I need to win all the free beer I can), but I don't see you as my nemesis. More like the hapless sidekick of the bad guy, whose ineptitude is a source of comedy value rather than fear.

Even the tournament itself, while in a sense the main reason I'm there, isn't the be all and end all. I've played enough poker tournaments to know that while skill gives an advantage it doesn't guarantee success in any one tournament. If by some fluke I get knocked out early, it just means more time for side-games, which is where the real money's won.

No, for me the guy I want to beat, the guy I'm seeking to take out, is Master Roshambollah. He's spent most of the last two years subtly and not-so-subtly dismissing me, and now he's going to have to put his money where his mouth is, and then eat his words. He knows I'm coming to Toronto to meet him, play him, and beat him.

Rosh, I know how your mind works, I know you're probably trying to find a way to back out of facing me, some excuse to avoid being shown up as second-best, but you better turn up in Toronto, that's all I can say...  being a loser isn't so bad (just ask custardchuckle), but being a coward... that ain't a good look.

Rider - the showdown sounds interesting.  Never bet more than you can afford to lose man.  The posse can't save anyone here.

martin - Sounds like you have a plan to run right through all the bullboarders.  Unfortunately if you're like me you'll end up playing some random girl in the first round who edges you out by one throw.  Not much time for a plan when you're playing random people; and internet records mean absolutely nothing.  Most of the people I play on RedBull are random and my record is only about 51%.  The people I play on RPSgame are a much smaller group with multiple repeat matches and I'm currently above 54%.  Then there's this ladder match tourney and I think I'm about 70% here.  Stopped counting when the ladder died, as I assumed the Cohrs Effect was working fine for me.

Also Rosh is retired, so even if he does come out of hiding and make it to the show, not that he's made that known via this medium, it will have to be Street action; no structure to rely on there and much different stakes.

I feel you on the sliding dollar though.  Thanks to the current state of world affairs, the won slipped from about 1100-1 when I came to now over 1300-1.  For me this means I've lost about 25% of the value of my job in the last 3 weeks.  But I did just buy about a month's worth of groceries for 70$ US, so I can't complain too much.

chuk - I'll drink a beer for you.  I've already passed your legend on to my Aussie mates.  There's 2 other native teachers at my school, one is Australian and one has duel citizenship with Australia and the US.  The latter one's grandfather used to be governor in Australia actually.  And they both think the Aussie RPS shirt is awesome; thanks again mate.

So you want me to gamble everything I have had, and want, out of RPS for a silver dollar you no longer possess. Sounds like a loaded game.

I am seriously considering it.

Take a number, martin.
