I'm in Toronto now and I've already won my first beer bet. Against my friend Marta. You can pay me the $100 when you get here. Cheers Wink

Will you remove that mask and show us who you really are if you lose?

Good catch Chuk, the mask removal is key to this match. Without it, the wager is a total sham.

I read your terms. And i smell a rat.
You lose on friday and you ride off into the sunset never to be seen again, again.
And them some bloke calling himself the "Daylight Robber", or something like that, who doesn't wear a mask,   (or, who wears a different mask), a man that nobody has ever seen before, blows into town from parts unknown on Saturday night and takes the Rider's vacant spot. Mmmm..

Give me a break!

It's all or nothing, dude.

So you knocked over Marta, did you? Wow! That's it then. I probably shouldn't even come over with you in such red hot form. Sounds like you've already won the whole thing.

Where do you think you are, Martin?

I'll tell you where you are not. You are not round behind the swingset at school in some backwater in New Zealand.

Where you are is Toronto, Canada, where 519 of the greatest RPS players in the world, (plus you) are gathering as I speak and in 5 days there will be a titanic battle to find out who is the best of the best. And none of us care whether you beat Marta, or Arta or a pink flying pig, last Monday.

A beer bet in Toronto is a bet with another RPS professional that is witnessed by other RPS professionals. In a beer challenge in Toronto, a normal professional RPS player would assume that the game must be witnessed by the challenger, that being me. But you're not normal, are you? You are the best player any of us have ever seen. You even beat Marta.

If I was you, I'd be doing a lot less bragging and a lot more training or your tournament will be over before it starts.

You don't really have your head around it, do you, Martin?

regards

Ornery bugger, ain't you?

mmmmm.....OK.

So I'm getting that you don't want to unmask. Have it your way.

I'll keep my distance. (though I was going to play you no matter what the final terms were.)

This is already one the toughest tournaments I've been to. Playing you was always going to be the easy bit.

To any grumbling Aussies and ornery Yanks who want to meet up for beers and throws, my number in Toronto is 416-768-1464.

Marta's a fledgling RPS professional and our match was witnessed by Raymie, another young pro. You're not seriously suggesting that three RPS professionals would lie about something as sacred as the results of an RPS match, are you? Wink

Ah, it's all good. The sweet taste of the beer I win from you in our first game will be reward enough for me.

This is in no way a comprehensive list Maximillion, just getting through the night in (mostly) one piece leaves my faculties somewhat muddied - but my duties have me covering a lot of ground over the night so I get a generally good idea of who's there. Personally I crossed paths with the following Bullboarders this year:

(In no particular order - and limited to reasonably active posters on the bullboard)

Martin Burley
Scissors Sista
Yanis
The Midnight Rider
Chris Hernandez
C. Urbanus
Ruxpin
Rhymeswithsausage
Master Roshambollah
Jef Hallestone
Geir-Arne

One of my junior referees was approached by a "creepy man in a trench-coat with a fantastic moustache"... so I think it's reasonably safe to presume that was  either Al Thorn, or Alex Apter.

That's all my poor brain can recall at the moment - I apologize if I've missed anyone... the championship night (like any massive head trauma) becomes a bit of a blank spot that I tend to remember in pieces throughout the year.

On the other side of the coin the absence of custardchuk was keenly felt this year. The word on the street was he had some type of travel snafu, hopefully he'll check in and let us know he's in one piece. Suffice it to say more than one glass was raised to toast his safe travels.

Some are saying that they believe that Wojek himself was there.

It was never going to be a good week.
Dogs ate my car on Friday and Scissorsista took me down at Brisbane airport in one of the more audacious moves I've seen over the years on Tuesday. (She played me using the Cohrs Effect strategy and I congratulate her).
I eventually got a later flight and made it to Calgary on saturday afternoon however the office was shut and no-one was around and there was no information on the door as to where the Championship venue was so I slept on the doorstep and fed myself by playing passers-by for their hotdogs. When I woke up I came home.

Having never missed the dance since I started in broadcasting, I certainly wasn't going to start now - even if not covering the champs in an official capacity (Chris, Grant, and I have promised to keep a low profile until our collective lawsuit finally gets through the courts).

You were hustling too fast for me to say "hello" Brad, however I did get a chance to chat with your brother in his arena for a while before wave 3. However I was wearing a tweed sport-coat and my retro "press" fedora - so Al was probably there as well... although I'd hardly call his moustache "fantastic".
