The criteria for this poll:

Who has done more to support the sport?
Who has best shown his support by continuing to compete year after year?
Who has more often made himself available when needed?
If you were a client/sponsor of an event, whom would you pay to fly out for the event?

One vote only, please.

This is possibly the stupidest poll I have ever seen on the bullboard (and I have seen a lot of dumb polls, many of which I have likely written)

When a client asks for a previous world champion to help generate interest in their event, they want them because that is what the media wants because that is the editors want because that is what the readers want. End of story.

Of course Urbanus has done more for the sport than Lee. No one questions that.

Except this bullsh1t poll.

Again, Jef makes a very valid point.  If somebody asks me for something to which I have access, and I want to give it to them, then I typically do.  End of story.  Furthermore, the creation of bullshit polls does indeed detract from the spambots talking to each other, which has become the dominant form of discourse on the board of late.

My one point of dispute is not whether this is the stupidest poll Jef has ever seen on the board ("stupid" being in the brain of the beholder,) but whether or not this is the stupidest poll ever seen on the Board in general.  I think I'll clairfy that situation...

Didn't mean to frazzle any nerves, Jef.  You can pick up your goat at Outreach Payables.

This one, too, is rather clear-cut for me. Urbanus is one of the top eight strategists in the world. Let's not forget that. He consistently competes in, and wins, pro-league tournaments all over the world. He spends much of his time organising PBRPRPSCL events in Philly.

What has Rammage done? He had the added advantage of fluking a world title, and yet we hear nothing of him. I would wager that his lack of actual skill ensured he didn't stay on top for very long.

End of story.

Cheers,

See Franklint, this post here illustrates why your game suffers - you're too emotional with your throws, or in this case your posts.  Lee Rammage won that title fair and square against some of the best players around - and was a quality champ the year he was on the throne.

Given that, I'm still inclined to vote for myself.  It's what good men do.

Also, I feel as though I should ad that any discussion of the greatest Champion ever should begin and end with Master Pete Lovering for the duties he performed from 2002-2003.  Far and away he provided the most service to the sport and Society of any reigning champ.  I can't believe the Hong Kongese didn't specifically request him.

Franklint, you are a brave man, casting aspersions on any World Champ.

Sure Rammage was one of the most hated World Champs ever but it doesn't mean we don't like him.

I was present when he won his title with a mixture of foul play and disdain for the crowd. I didn't like it but I sure respected it.

I think it was Rammage who as World Champ then went on to lead a Disney parade. I sure respected that also. (I was at the time, possibly, jealous.)

There is no such thing as an accidental World champion. The competition is too hot and the field is too big. Show some respect, you little upstart.

I had a similar discussion earlier today with C. Urbanus, chuk.  I remarked to Urbanus that I quite like Lee Rammage, and he agreed.  Still, the sport has to have its good guys and its bad guys.  Lee's taunting the jeering crowd places him clearly in the latter camp, at least among veteran Professional Players.  He wears it well.  Still, I am given to wonder how the HK interviewers pronounced his name.  That's a lot of L's and R's...

Rosh has compared RPS to professional wrestling on certain occasions, and I feel that the analogy stands.  In pro wrestling, it sounds like Rammage would be a "heel."  Some of the most famous heels are Ric Flair, the Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Mankind, and even Hulk Hogan as Hollywood Hogan.  They're also some of the most entertaining people to watch.  Stone Cold was a heel that was forced to be a "face," or a good guy, just because the crowd liked him so much.  Whenever you can cause a strong reaction with a crowd, you're definitely doing something right.

I feel the same about Yanis, who I beat 3 out of 4 times in street matches, but couldn't stop him as he had pooled money with a group and outlasted me only because of his backing.  He's been on the bullboard several times since then though, and showed that the title at least meant something to him.

I had to vote for Urbanus though, simply because I personally like him quite a bit and see more of the contributions he make on a continuing basis.

It's true, I am a passionate gentleman. I am glad to be able to admit that, even as an Advanced Journeyman, I continue to learn.

I agree with the first part of this sentence. As for the second, I can only assume that it is your obligation to commend your opponent in a poll that accounts for it.

It is possible that Rammage was a better champ than I thought he was. Regardless, who would say no to some healthy controversy?

You will note, custardchuk, that I never said that I didn't respect the man. Any person who gets to the top of a World Championship event has earnt my esteem, despite the methods used.

Peace,
