This thread is for conversation relevant to the Pros V Joes match.

Roshambollah's withdrawal from the competition left a wildcard position open which I offered to Mark "D" Thomas and he has accepted. "D" is the closest the Joes had to a Pro and I'm amazed they left him out. Anyway, their loss....

I'd like you all to make him feel welcome.

As you are all aware the format is a one-on-one, three losses and you're out affair. I am to submit a team list in any order and Heyes will do the same. That will determine who plays who.

Apparently, he and I will only play if the tournament is locked up. Given that it is essentially a knock out tournament I fail to see how that could eventuate so I'm thinking you guys are going to have to do his yourselves.

Does anyone have any particular bunnies that we could exploit?

I'm interested in the idea that we gang up and remove Kalvheim early. Any thoughts?

I think that although Seth is the Joes No 1 seed he is a pretender who has come off two lucky tournies early, including one where I was scratched illegally. He hasn't done anything since and I fel it may be a good idea to keep him around until the pointy end.

Antway, you are all free to post your thoughts here. Whilst i am captain of this team, though, remember, this is not a democracy. Think of me more as a benevolent dictator.

regards
Captain custardchuk

The official rules as deemed by Heyes.

"Each Day, starting the day after Clayton gives me his team, the 5 players will throw down against one of the players from the opposing team. Each day Myself and Clayton will decide that days fixtures. Each player receives 3 lives. Everytime a player loses a match they lose 1 life. when all 3 lives are lost they are eliminated from the game. When 1 player is eliminated from a match the opposing team (if in a odd number case - ie 5 PLAYERS VS 4 PLAYERS) the players left over may challenge a player who is still in play to try and speed up their elimination. The team that eliminates the other team 1st wins the Pro's vs Joe's Title, with the player making the most wins being called the MVP."

I've asked for, and had verbally approved by Heyes, a 48 hour turn around. If they try and pull the wool over anyone of us regarding this then we all walk.

I've noticed there is no mention of stakes. Most of these guys have a bit of money behind them. I see this tournament as a chance to liberate some of that money. RPSOZ is happy to look at staking any of us that feels they are on a sure win. Submit application form WRPSS- DWS.34FF-2007 (along with the 5% deposit) as soon as possible and that will enable them to send out the form you will need to submit.

I agree that once we get an extra player, it's worth focusing on trying to take Anna out. I'm happy to try - I'm down against her in games, but well up in credits, so I win the ones that count.

If you want a good bet, I have a nice edge over Sarah. Plus she likes me, which is a disadvantage for her. I'd back myself to knock a couple of lives off her if I get the opportunity to play her. I have a massive 5-1 edge over Andrew but I'm surprised I've only played him 6 times.

I'd suggest getting trying to get into the players' heads and sow some seeds of dissent if possible. For example whoever is playing the Joes' number 1, point out how much pressure James is putting on him/her by selecting them as 1. If you're up against #5, comment on the lack of appreciation James is showing them. United we stand, divided they fall.

Talking of which, are we (and/or our ignominious illustrious captain) allowed to comment on each other's matches in progress?

1st and Only time i will come in here during this contest

Me and Clayton will enter the contest when there is only 1 person left on each team. Seems right that the team who wins defeats the Captain last really..

OK, thats that over with, let the best team win

(Also Tyler Robertson has agreed to make sure the contest is run fairly)

I've submitted the following to Heyes:

The way your are doing it I can manufacture the whole round anyway so I will just do that. 1 plays 1, 2 plays 2 etc.

Andy Mills
Seth Gormley
Anna Kvalheim
Sarah Dixon
Andy Lampman

Pros:
Mark D Thomas
Cohrs
Frannie Annie
Burley
Pridmore

I decided to use Will and Mark D as berserkers and expect them to attack every and anyone hard and often. Being the junior members I consider they have yet to prove themselves so will give them opportunity. Also I judge them the most disposable.

Burley and Cohrs are follow in their wake picking off the wounded.

Frannie Annie will be working on the women. She seems to have the wood on Anna and Sarah and i want to reduce the mens exposure to these two where possible. Burley, being the next closest thing we have to a girl, is take on Sarah this time.

Good luck and go well.......

There you go, chuk. I did what you wanted, throwing the first match of the tournament so that the less experienced players on our team wouldn't feel the pressure of potentially being our first loss.

I think we should post the throws from each match here, to assist us in plotting and planning.
SRS - me
RRR - Sarah

Watch for more Rock openings from the others, as I expect the pressure will lure them into following in Sarah's footsteps.

Continuing our pre-planned strategy of a large-scale Urbanus Defence, I have followed martinburley's loss with a easy win against Lampman. Some tremendously amateur play on his part assured my victory.

How is everyone else going match-wise?

Cheers,

I'm pretty disappointed in myself. Won my first with Millsy with ease, then lost an easy win against sarah, and then Millsy crushed me in our early morning day 3 match. I blame myself for stupidly playing this early in the a.m. Down to one life, but I'm determined...I won't let that last life go without a fight. I should so have 2 lives remaining, the lost to Sarah was pathetic...

A wounded pro is a dangerous pro, Mark. One life is the perfect place to be. It's all or nothing now, channel that pressure and you'll bring your best game to the table.

Just took down my third Joe in a row with no lives lost. So much for "proving myself", ay, 'chuk?

Yeah, I think Franklint's done enough to be let loose against some of the tougher opponents now, chuk. Wink

Thank you for the advice, Burley. I think I can feel good now, just played a helluva match against Anna, who frequently bests me mentally, and thus now I have eliminated. Feels goooooooooood...time to drink!
