The 2010 Australian Championships have been run and won in Canberra, the nations capital, last weekend. The 2010 Aussie No 1 seed in Canada this year will be Peter Matthews the "Fists of Fury".
( I did enough to qualify for Toronto, myself, so don't go counting your money just yet.)
It was a great night of competition, with representatives from most states in attendance including a solid showing from the Northern Territory who sent Santiago, (NT Champion), Frannie Annie (winner in Alice Springs) and myself, and, also, a mixed bag showing from our neighbours New Zealand who sent Jade "Pink Bitz" Fowler, (eventual 4th), and martinburley.
Air Guitar Australia were gracious hosts, providing accommodation, transport and a trough full of food and drinks worthy of such an event and such players. Thanks Brett.
Amongst the highlights of a night full of highlights, I'd have to say I enjoyed most the promoters refusal to allow sheepshagger martinburley to compete. You should have seen the tantrum.
While I can state that my urging for him to come over from NZ was made in good faith, I will admit to a certain satisfaction that burley's karma caught up with him. It seemed only yesterday that I travelled to New Zealand at Burleys urging on the promise of a seeded position, only to discover that burley had taken my position, and that had I won, I would have been stripped of the title under local rules, and that I had been set up to play the prettiest girl in the room.
Anyway, RPS is the great leveller, and to his credit, Martin, once he settled down, saw the light and accepted a refereeing position for some aussie dollars and free beer. It was probably a lot for a Kiwi, but we Aussies aren't vindictive.
Martin refereed my game and unsurprisingly handed out spurious yellow cards, however considering I had already qualified for the worlds I was prepared to let that loss go and I bore him no ill-will.
We actually made a sort of peace after the finals and hit the town and had a time.
I left with a huge bar bill and martin left with a "Socceroos oi oi oi" tattoo.
All in all, a great tournament.
