Thanks again, Custardchuck and Arbiter! (I must say that I kind of like "R-Byte". It has kind of a rap feel that I'm sure younger players would dig.)

Once again I am amazed at the thoughtfulness and completeness of your responses. Arbiter I found most useful your specific advice concerning having 4 or 5 standby strategies ready and how to scope the competition. Chuk you raised a good point re: am I willing to make the sacrifices necessary. Maybe that is what has been holding me back. Not committing myself whole hog to becoming a pro. Shoot, I dont even know if I would want to pursue a career in competitive RPS! I think I will go to the upcoming East Coast tournament, try out Arbiter's suggestions, see how I do, and then consider chuk's words before continuing.

I suppose the only other thing I need is a cool nickname. I could kick myself for not starting out on the board with something like "Rock Hound" or "Rock Steady". Also using my main Yahoo account has done little but fill up my Inbox with unsolicited commercial emails for RPS related wrist supports, calendars, Ponzi schemes ("In my fifth week, I received over 338 different rocks, scissors, and pieces of paper!") and other swag. Live and learn.

I guess my competitive nickname should reflect my personal playing style. I guess my problem is that I dont have one yet. There are some obvious ones like "Wild" Bill Helfer, but I dont want to play wildman all the time. Maybe "Gentle" Bill Helfer would work, but I dont think its edgy enough. Maybe I should go with William "Bill" Helfer. We shall see...
