I am proud to report that I have just received confirmation from Glinknie Hinkle, the World RPS Society Membership Application Division Secretary. I am now an official member!
I have been posting on the board for awhile, asking questions no one else asks, and making statements no one else will make. I have enjoyed the posts, and have recently been floored with the new wealth of available information and new design on worldrps.com. I decided to give a little back.
I have often considered joining, but was somewhat unsure of how I might best serve the Society. I have other personal obligations that take up a good deal of my time, and I still train quite a bit for tournament play (On the Regional Circuit only! I'm not quite ready to go to the PanAm Games with the rest of you high-rollers of the Bull Board Barons!)
Just last week I was approached by a member of Developmental Affairs concerning a position as a part-time operator. As you all know, the DA office is concerned with many of the "behind-the-scenes" actions of the WRPSS, the dissemination of information, and the occasional gentle nudge that helps move the Society towards a chosen vector.
Though rumored to be a "secret force" (much like the CIA, MiB, Knights of Malta, etc,) Developmental Affairs members openly profess their membership, though many times our motivations and instructions must remain classified. I was pleased to be offered a part-time position, as this will allow me to accept short-term assignments while still handling my personal obligations and tournament training.
I must point out that the term "operator" is somewhat misleading; a more accurate term would be "operative". Please, don't call my office asking me to connect you to anyone. My office is definitely not a switchboard!
I am also pleased to report that I will be working out of the Washington DC Metro Offices of the WRPSS (currently undergoing additional construction to expand the offices.) As a matter of fact, I will be working just down the hall from Bill Helfer, just around the corner from the bust of the late Master Roshambollah. Bill has already expressed some irritation that he joined too early to receive the swell sticker and fridge magnet, and I plan on flaunting both on my file cabinet, just to good-naturedly annoy him.
By the way, I am amazed with how little space Bill gets to run the Master Roshambollah Memorial Library. It is by no means a "closet", but the enormity of the work ahead of him would seem to demand a larger space. I realize that the late Master Roshambollah's offices are kept as they were at the time of his death, with his desk lamp left on constantly (much as the main Scientology building in DC keeps a light on in an office for the late L. Ron Hubbard,) but can't some of the space be reappropriated?
In any case, I'd like to thank the DA office for the ability to serve, and the rest of the Bull Board members for their undying support.
