I usually stay out of these "Society Members vs. Hostile Newcomer" threads. Some Society members seem to almost enjoy such things, but I typically think it's a waste of time. I half suspect the author of the post is someone with whom we're already familiar (again.) I just had to respond on a couple of points.

: Man, you guys must have a LOT of time on your hands if you have the time to analyze a person's writing style!

Not really. Along with Stu, I noticed the differences pretty much right off the bat. Without "analysis", most people can recognize the writing style of someone whose writing they've read a bit of.

:At any rate, custardchuk is gone!

Well, this being the main point of your message, I say yes, custarchuk may have possibly left the Society. The Society can not force individuals to remain members, and many have left our ranks. Custardchuk has resigned from the Society only to rejoin on several occasions. Most memorably, Custardchuk once resigned after the 1997 Melbourne Open. RPSOZ, concerned about the event's level of alcohol consumption, institued a Three Drink Rule. Chuk objected to this rule on the grounds that it would be unfair to nondrinkers as well as lightweights, by pushing them to meet the Three Drink Minimum. At one point, he even offered to personally consume enough to make up for those that did not meet the minimum, but RPSOZ was implacable. Chuk resigned that same day, but reinstated himself four months later, just in time for the RPSOZ Fall Bachanalia.

Most individuals leave the Society when in need of vacation (yet too lazy to submit and approve a sabbatical form), or more commonly out of revenge or to just make a point. The late Master Roshambollah himself seemed to leave and rejoin the Society almost at whim (and many still seem to think that he'll magically return someday!)

In short, if chuk has left, we all wish him the best. We were the wiser and more entertained in his presence. And if he should choose to return, we will welcome him with open arms.

:He has not posted any messages saying he has not resigned, so he obviously left!

Looks like he did. Just before you posted your response.
