Was I the only player ashamed by the lack of respect afforded to HRH Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on the day of her funeral? Why was the Marylebone Invitational not moved from its scheduled time of 11am on Tuesday last? I know I, for one, found it particularly difficult to concentrate, and the organisers’ insistence on black gloves, whilst insufficient as a mark of mourning and remembrance, just made the whole thing worse. I, like many others, found it impossible to play rock (I am told the Queen Mum would ‘play rock’ when demanding ice for her gin breakfasts after a particularly heavy night the night before). And to cap it all, the avowed republican S. Tolga Ediz romped to the final with a 13-rock avalanche, where he buried Simpson on the latter’s home turf.
So, the Marylebone is, of course, a WRPS sponsored event. To which of its labyrinthine department’s arse-pipe work experience boys should I address my complaint? I should add that I am a royalist.
