My deepest apologies to all those offended by the special measures, or lack of, at the Marylebone invitation tournament. I can claim no direct responsibility for the organisation of the event (nor to the invitations, or Ediz would not have been there) - since I was on a short sabbatical fly-fishing with Joao V at the time. However, as the Chairman of the Marylebone Club, I realise that the buck stops here.

Indeed the former Queen was a keen RPS amateur - her first known gambit was avalanche, no doubt inspired by the rumble that became of London during the air strikes of World War II.
'Bureaucrat' was another favourite ploy, especially, I understand, during her visits to Prime Minister Chamberlain's office. Perhaps, Sir Humphrey, that was the inspiration for Electrical Velonsky's tactic that ejected you from the preliminary rounds. If so, you may rest assured that your own spectacular defeat will stand alongside mine as a memorial to HRH.

As for the black gloves, they did turn out to be a pretty bad idea - sorry. McMurtry gave me an earful after the tournament about the lack of visibility. We live and learn, as it were.

Simpson.

: Was I the only player ashamed by the lack of respect afforded to HRH Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on the day of her funeral? Why was the Marylebone Invitational not moved from its scheduled time of 11am on Tuesday last? I know I, for one, found it particularly difficult to concentrate, and the organisers’ insistence on black gloves, whilst insufficient as a mark of mourning and remembrance, just made the whole thing worse. I, like many others, found it impossible to play rock (I am told the Queen Mum would ‘play rock’ when demanding ice for her gin breakfasts after a particularly heavy night the night before). And to cap it all, the avowed republican S. Tolga Ediz romped to the final with a 13-rock avalanche, where he buried Simpson on the latter’s home turf.

: So, the Marylebone is, of course, a WRPS sponsored event. To which of its labyrinthine department’s arse-pipe work experience boys should I address my complaint? I should add that I am a royalist.
