I agree, the discussion has become overblown... both vanilla RPS and The Fifth Element should be able to live in harmony with one another.

Quite obviously it should not be judged as the natural successor to RPS (to do so would be pretentious), because of two reasons:

1) It needs no successor

...and also reason 2, which I can't think of right now.
