: as an aspiring youngster i think that soon somebody must realise the potential of rps and sponsor it...the audiences it could draw in could be amazin....imagine the excitement of a top level competition, like between Bobby "Bobster" McBob and Old Smelly Frederic. Just reading the name sends a shiver down my spine.

Longtimers know I can be counted on for graybeard ramblings, but I'd love to see a network like ESPN Classic show footage of some of the old matches (that was *real* RPS, before the sport went commercial). So many of the kids coming up today just aren't familiar with the 1962 World Championship nailbiter between Mbebwe Otamba and Wolfgang "Papiermorder" Schneider in Osaka, Japan, or the late throw that cost Scooter Silverman the US national title in 1977. The've never had the opportunity to see them, except maybe on some nth-generation VHS dub by mail order from some guy who lives in his parents' basement in Modesto. We're in danger of losing contact with our history.

(As an aside, I'm still looking for a copy of the film from the 1942 Melbourne Invitational (Phil "Fingers" McDonald's last match and his only one ever filmed). If anyone knows where I can find one, please let me know.)
