: : I heard a rumour that Arbiter was going to propose a better verison of bullboard software to the Society.

: For what reason? To allow more precise author "profiling", including measures to interact with the new MS Windows XP, which actually *creates a user database linked to your computer, and will not load on multiple machines???!!!* I am all for ease of use. I am for technology which liberates instead of enslaves. It remains to be seen which type of software will be used (although the recent post concerning Turkish Security Software is QUITE disturbing, I am investigating this as well.) If the board software is changed, I urge each of you to take the following steps until its true nature can be determined: Disable all ActiveX, Java, Javascript, and IM applications. Use a proxy server. Use a firewall. Do not use DSL if you are in a large apartment building. And do not post any personal information when "registering" to use the Emporer's New Board.

Well now, this is rather disconcerting. First, the Board Utility Reevaluation Project (BURP) was supposed to be semi-secret and I'm disturbed that news of it seems to have leaked out. Lest you immediately attribute more malice to the project than you already have, the official reasons for this secrecy are as follows:

1) The need for a new Bull Board design has not yet been officially declared, so any new developments may or may not actually be implemented.

2) The Media Brigade and Web group do not want a flurry of suggestions, congratulations and complaints before the project is unveiled.

My personal reason for keeping this quiet is a little different. Now that my supervisor has found out about it, he's going to slap a deadline on me. To whichever of my staff spilled the news of this project: Thanks a lot, you creep!

And thanks to you, too, Al. It's nice to know that you hold my team and our work in such high regard. I can almost feel the trust like a tangible substance dripping from your words. After our, albeit brief, collaboration on the Bali investigation, I would have thought we had a little better understanding than that. It appears I was wrong.

Get help, you hotheaded zealot! You've got more to worry about than new operating systems.
