Another point on the strategy of the game you mentioned: I totally concur with you that the Kid's fifth throw (the middle throw in the nested Avalanche) was an intentional loss. The Kid used the loss to set the conditions necesssary to 1) induce Lindsay into thinking he could win by completing the Denoument and 2)complete the Avalanche. When Lindsay attempts to Copycat the Kid's Rock in his next throw, he gets a good wrapping by the Kid's Morning Edition.
This is not only an example of the Indeterminate strategy, but an excellent example of my own mid-second round positioning concepts. In the middle of the nested Avalanche, the Kid intentionally loses, knowing it will not only set the conditions to win with the third throw, but will retroactively ensure optimal positioning for the first throw. Yet he seems to have done so intuitively.
One of the greatest hinderances to my own game has been my use (some would say overuse) of the Best of 3 format. My Mid Second-Round Positioning (or MSRP) Theorems were designed with the Best of 3 format in mind. I have had difficulty adapting it to any other format, say Best of 5 or Best of 23 (the Kid may have this tendancy as well, as he used two back to back Best-of-3 gambits.)
I was about to say that the Kid seems to have hit upon a solution to my strategic problems intuitively. I then realized that in considering the game you posted, I had found a possible answer that has eluded me for ages. The logical extension of Mid Second Round Positioning into other formats is to simultaneously use MSRP, nesting strategies (to create subsets in which to use Mid Second Round strategies), and Indeterminacy (to attempt to link the different nested gambits into a strategic whole.) I am convinced that this is the key to a whole new era of RPS strategy.
The best way to implement this strategy is another story. I plan to begin my own studies immediately. The Phartgate Hearings aren't quite taking up as much of my time as I had thought. I must thank you again for your remarkable story and game stats that have provoked so much thought and inspiration. I will endeavor to leave the main subject of your report as far from the spotlight as possible. I have complete trust in you to do what is in the lad's (or lass's) best interests.
